About Wilson
Wilson was founded in 1913 as the Ashland Manufacturing Company as part of Wilson & Co.. A year later they started making racket strings and violin strings. In 1915 Thomas E. Wilson became the president of the company and he focused entirely on the sports products market, also naming the company after himself (Thomas E. Wilson Co.). In the years that followed, many competitors were taken over and the company grew explosively. In 1931 the company got its current name. After World War II, the company grew into the largest sporting goods manufacturer in the United States. In 1967 the parent company Wilson & Co was taken over, after which the sports department was sold to PepsiCo. Wilson split from PepsiCo in the 1980s, becoming the property of Finnish Amer Sports in 1989.
Many top tennis players play with Wilson rackets, including Pete Sampras and Stefan Edberg played with Wilson rackets. Today, among others, Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Juan Martín del Potro are sponsored.
