The “Hammer” is a Technical Training Aid that has been specifically developed to isolate the simulation of the “cut-block” technique within a contact drill.

The Hammer is made up of a rectangular body and half cylinder contact head. Within the rectangular body there are weights placed at the front of the body in behind the cylinder head, this allows the training aid to gather momentum when thrown at an oncoming player.

  • The “Hammer” is a Technical Training Aid that has been specifically developed to isolate the simulation of the “cut-block” technique within a contact drill.
  • The “Hammer” has been designed to simulate a set of shoulders. The foam hammer head is also rounded to simulate the shape of the player’s helmet.
  • Embedded in the end of the rectangle body at the hammer head end is a weight inside the foam that creates momentum when the hammer is thrown by the player or coach within the drill. Users will automatically feel the weighted “Hammer Head” end when the training aid is picked up by the handles.
  • The “Hammer” is covered by industrial strength PVC, which allows it to be thrown across the grass/rubber crumb surface so that it will slide, if coaches or players want to throw the training aid at lower levels.
  • The hammer is thrown at the intended target by utilizing the its two handles. Handle 1 is located at the front of the rectangle hammer body at 180 degrees and handle 2 is located at the back of the pad at 90 degrees. All of the throwing momentum is generated by these two handle points.
  • Players and coaches will very quickly pick up the technique of the “Hammer Throw” allowing for a good generation of power and momentum and accuracy into the target - aiming at specific hit points - Thigh, above or below knee, calf or ankle.
  • Coaches can also set up drills where multiple “hammers” are being thrown: one left side - one right side - and one centre, in setting up this scenario the player will not know what angle the hammer was coming from, in this way giving a different training affect.
  • 120cm x 85cm x 30cm. Weight: 15kg
